Lincoln's Letter To Mrs Lydia Bixby Read On 9/11 Ceremony

'The Cherished Memory Of The Loved And Lost': Bush Reads Out Abraham Lincoln Letter To Mother Whose Five Sons Died In Civil War -- Daily Mail

Former U.S. President George W Bush read a letter today written by Abraham Lincoln as he addressed the families of thousands of victims killed on 9/11 this morning.

Commemorating the sacrifices of those lost in the horrific terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, Bush cited Lincoln's letter to Mrs Lydia Bixby, penned in 1864.

The text, regarded highly among Lincoln's finest works of writing, addresses a bereaved mother of five sons who were thought to have died while fighting for the Union in the Civil War.

Features help us to remember the day and include a photo album of the World Trade Center's life and violent death, New Yorkers' descriptions of the most harrowing day in the city's history and a reflection by former Times executive editor Bill Keller.

The years since the tragedy are also examined with a reflection by the brother of a Pentagon victim about his family's decade-long journey, a portrait of American Muslims who came of age in the last decade and a graphic illustrating what the cost of war has been to the United States.

No Unauthorized 9/11 Tribute Gear For NFL Players

NFL Players May Be Fined For Wearing Unauthorized 9/11 Tribute Gear -- Yahoo Sports

If you remember that the NFL threatened to fine Peyton Manning(notes) for wearing high-top cleats to honor the late Johnny Unitas after Unitas passed away on September 11, 2002, you know that the league takes its uniform rules very, very seriously. Manning was threatened with a $25,000 fine if he wore the cleats in a game because he had formally been denied permission to do so by the NFL. In the end, Manning took a pass, though Baltimore Ravens quarterback Chris Redman(notes) flew in the face of authority and got popped with a $5,000 fine for his trouble.

A Unique Perspective On Sept. 11: The Last Sunrise Between The Twin Towers -- Spiegel Online

He came to New York for vacation, but became a witness to the most devastating terror attack the world had ever seen. Reinhard Karger documented the disaster from a marina across the water from the World Trade Center and shared his story with SPIEGEL ONLINE.

In the summer of 2001, my brother was living on a sailboat in New York Harbor. For one week, I went to visit him there to relax and sail a bit. I wanted to shop in Manhattan, and enjoy the last warm days of summer. The views were dazzling.

Revisiting 9/11: Unpublished Photos by James Nachtwey -- Time

James Nachtwey happened to be in New York the morning of 9/11 and made his way to Ground Zero. Ten years ago, TIME published Nachtwey’s extraordinary pictures from the day, but he had not revisited those 27 rolls of film since. A few weeks ago, we had Nachtwey in the office, poring over his contact sheets, reliving the events of that Tuesday. Here, he shares his edit of those photographs, some previously unpublished (slides: 1, 5, 8, 9, 10, 14, 15), with TIME and spoke with writer David Levi Strauss about the work.

Twinkling Tribute To The Twin Towers: World Trade Center Rises In Poignant Pillars Of Light As New York Makes Final Preparations For 9/11 Anniversary -- Daily Mail

Shooting high into the night, the Twin Towers rise above New York again as sparkling pillars of light.

The Tribute in Light has graced the Manhattan skyline on a number of occasions. But as tests were carried out ahead of the tenth anniversary of 9/11, their reappearance is particularly poignant.

A team of lighting specialists have been working around the clock to ensure the art installation is ready for Sunday, when it will be switched on from dusk until dawn.

Last night the group of 30 electricians, stage hands and technicians pushed on with calibrating the 88 bulbs that will be projected upwards from Ground Zero in memory of those killed in the attacks.

It is one of a host of events in memory of the 2,753 who died on the site of the Twin Towers in 2001.

Who Supported The 9/11 Terrorists Before They Launched Their Attack

House or haven? This home, located at 4224 Escondito Circle in Sarasota, Florida, was probed by the FBI and was found to have several ties to the 9/11 hijackers

Mystery Surrounds The Ritzy Florida Home Linked To 9/11 Terrorists - And Why The FBI Didn't Tell Congressional Committee About It -- The Daily Mail

It's a sprawling piece of real estate with a dark secret: It may have been a haven for bloodthirsty terrorists.

The sudden disappearance of the home’s Saudi residents before September 11 prompted calls to authorities, who found links to those who orchestrated the horrific attacks of that morning.

Days before the tenth anniversary of the worst terror strike on American soil, new light is being shed on the home, and its ties to the tragedy.

My Comment: When the 9/11 terrorists first arrived in the U.S. .... someone had to take care of them and show them "the ropes". Unfortunately .... in the investigations that followed after 9/11 there is a complete absence of any information on who were these enablers and supporters, and more specifically on what did they do to help these terror teams when they were here. The above Daily Mail story is one piece of this mystery, but my gut is telling me that this is just one very small piece of a much larger story that no one is willing to talk about .... for now.
