Sew Bee Wonky Blocks....

I was able to finish tow blocks last night. Our February gal gave us carte blanche to make any wonky blocks we wanted! I had such fun making these for her. She is going to have a great quilt with all the fun blocks she will be receiving! If you would like to take a peek at some of the blocks, just click the Sew Bee Wonky Button on my sidebar. My month is April!

The Final Piece of the Puzzle!

It is done!!!
Our big re-model job is officially done. Our new queen sleeper sofa arrived. It would not fit!!!! So, they had to take it apart and reassemble it in the new room. There was no way I was going to pick out a new sofa, I just love it!

It is a soft cozy grey fabric. I choose red pillows for the accent as the table and chair set we have was my husband’s parents, circa 1950’s. The seats are red leather.

This is my new pink light. I turn off the overheard lights and this one is just right for getting cozy on the couch while watching TV!!

This picture shows my second red/aqua quilt. I think it works so well with the blue walls and red accents!

See that lump? That is me!!!

When I get older and cannot do stairs this is where I will be, just put a quilt over me and call it a day!!! I am already in Heaven!!!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Deer Me.......

Oh my goodness we are so lucky. These are “our” dear (not really) but we do put feed out for them. And they come!! Today we had seven in out backyard. It is so funny , they know us. I can open the door go out and toss some corn for them, they hide for a minute, then when I go in they come back. They totally ignore our dog.
They eat less than 10 feet from my family room window!
I think they are so beautiful.

This one found something on the deck she was enjoying.

My office is right above the family room so this is what I get to see.

How lucky, such beautiful creatures.

Mod Mosaic Blocks

I am sure many of you are familiar with Elizabeth from Oh, Fransson!, if not get over there!!
Anyhoo, she has a fun tutorial for Mod Mosaic Blocks. What a great stash buster block. I made up a few. This would be a great quilt and you can use every bit of fabric you have. Here is the link if you would like to test some for yourself!

FINALLY!!!!!!!

One of the first swaps I was in was with Nanette from Freda’s Hive. We all made Christmas Cottages using Nanette’s Pattern (HERE) and our fabrics. We sent them to her; she mixed them up and sent back new ones. This was such a fun swap and a great house pattern. I have used the pattern several times since.
I was so excited to receive my cottages and make my top. Well, it did not happen for that year, or the next, or even this past Christmas.

BUT………

It will for 2011!!!!!!

I finally have the top together! Oh my, it was such fun looking and placing the houses. It brought back such fond memories!!!

Hmmmm, I have a lot of tops done….

Quilters elbow is going to start if I hand quilt to much.
Man getting old stinks!!!

Here it is….

Not sure how to quilt it? Any ideas???

The Top is Finished!

I finished the top! It went together like a great puzzle. Thanks to Elaine all the pieces fit! I think one of the reasons I liked this pattern was the colors. I usually do not work in these tones, but something about it shouted “Try me, give me a chance”!
I am so glad I did. She is now marked for quilting and ready to be made into a quilt sandwich.

I was very happy to find out that Joann’s had their thread 50% off; so, nuts! I had to go shopping since some of theses colors I did not have in my stash.

The next step, the hand quilting. I hope to be able to show you the finished project in a few (many) months. Hopefully just in time for fall decorating!!

Have a “sew” filled weekend!

My First Mug Rug......

I know!! It seems as if everyone but me has made or received a Mug Rug.
So I jumped right on the band wagon when Madame Samm from Sew I Quilt was having a contest.
Rules~~~~ easy peasy...
Make a mug rug
Take a photo
Send it to Madame Samm
No names
In a month we got to vote on the mug rugs!

Such fun!!
I would have been way to nervous to make one for a swap but since we got to keep ours it was a win, win situation!
Here is what I made.

What to do on a snow day...........

First off I would like to say Thank You for all your well wishes during our snow storm. At this point there have been no injurers. People were stranded on the road right by Lake Michigan in downtown Chicago for as long as 13 hours. As of this afternoon they were still trying to remove cars that were abandon by their owners either for running out of gas or just plain tired of not moving. Kind people crossed the street to bring the passengers food and drinks and blankets. All are home now but some have not gotten their cars yet.

Due to the plummeting temperatures they expect the wind chill factor to go as low as -25 to-30 below zero!

We get another snow day!!

So….
What did we do today?
Slept in!! I was served hot coffee in bed my daughter!
Did some sewing, just not ready to show you yet.
Watched as my hubby went out every half hour or so to shovel!
Actually cleaned out the crawl space and packed and moved bins into our new closets.
Played games.
Watched TV.
Ate junk food.

I have showed you where I piece my quilts........

I thought it might be fun to show you where I hand quilt. I must first take a shower and get into my PJ’s. I sit in my lazy-boy with the feet up. My quilt is on my lap all cozy. To my left, my bright light, scissors, thread, pins, etc
This is the only spot I can do my quilting.

To my right hanging on the wall is a quilt my mother embroidered and I added the scrappy border. This is such a treasure for me as my mother passed almost 20 years ago at a very young age.

Then right in front of me, less than 3 feet away, is the TV. Tonight, Top Chef, while I quilt.

I decided to stitch a big X in each of the nine patch sections.

I sometimes use medical tape to keep my stitching straight. I plan on using a nice pink in the sashing but have not decided on the pattern yet.

There you have it!! My very special spot. I could spend hours (and I have) quilting there!

Well it is after midnight, and I have no idea why I am wide awake so I think I will now go and read on my kindle!

Hope I did not bore you too much!
